Mengjiang – A Chinese Xiannu
Mengjiang lives beside the Great Wall of China, just outside the capital city of Beijing. If you meet her there, she might say, “Ni hao, wo de mingzi shi Mengjiang.” She enjoys evenings on the wall, especially during the lantern festival called Shangyuan. From here she has a great view out over the city where she watches with her friend, Hou, the golden snub-nosed monkey. She is named for the Lady Meng Jiang, one of the most famous Chinese folklore legends. There is a temple built in her honour, in one of the oldest sections of the Great Wall in the Shandong Province.
