For 2 or more players aged 6+
A Game of Words and Chances - guess the word that your opponent has chosen.
The players should sit opposite each other. Decide how many rounds you will play. Agree who will be the first to choose a word, this player should take the play unit with the front panel facing their opponent and more the hangman slider to the blank position.
At the start of each round the person choosing the word must decide on a word up to eight letters in length, which they should spell out with the letter tiles on the lower rack of their play unit. This word is then transferred to the upper rack, but in reverse order and with the letters facing towards themselves. When the letters are revealed to the guessing player they will then be in the correct order.
The guessing player must try to find the word that their opponent has chosen by calling out a letter, which they think might be in the word. If the letter called out is in the word the player must turn round all the tiles in the word showing this letter to face the guessing player. If the letter called out is not the word, the opposing player moves the hangman slider along one position to reveal the Hangman picture. Each time the player calls out a letter that has been previously called out they should be told this by the word setter and they may choose another letter without the hangman slider being moved along.
If the guessing player thinks they know what the chosen word is, they may choose to declare the word instead of guessing another letter. However, if the declaration is incorrect the hangman slider moves forward one position.
A round is won by the guessing player if they correctly identify the word, or by the person who has chosen the word if they “hang” the guessing player. If a player spells a word incorrectly the guessing player wins the round. The first player to win the agreed number of rounds is the winner.
